San Diego · Cold plunge

Private cold plunge in San Diego.

A cold plunge in San Diego that you never wait in line for. Think of it as a private ice bath: the tub sits in your own suite on Sports Arena Blvd, a few steps from the infrared sauna, and it's ready when your session starts.

The San Diego plunge

Why people book it

Cold plunge benefits, in brief.

  • Less soreness after training

A meta-analysis of nine trials found cold water immersion eased muscle soreness a little more than resting after exercise (Sports Medicine, 2016).

  • A lift in mood

Adults new to cold water felt more alert and less nervous after five minutes in a 68°F bath (Biology, 2023). Our plunge is colder than that.

  • A jolt of energy

Sitting in 57°F water for an hour raised noradrenaline by 530% and dopamine by 250% in one study (European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2000). A plunge is far shorter, but many people still walk out buzzing.

What it's like here

Inside the San Diego cold plunge.

The San Diego plunge is a white freestanding tub under the green Breathe sign, with a small wooden step to climb in. It's kept at 45 to 49°F, cold enough that thirty seconds feels like an achievement the first time.

Nobody is waiting for a turn and nobody is watching, which changes the whole thing. Take your time getting in. Breathe out slowly. Get out when you want to.

Looking for an ice bath in San Diego? A plunge is the tidier version: the water holds its temperature, so there's no ice to add. Our full guide to cold plunging covers the basics.

First plunge? Try this.

  • Warm up in the sauna first if you like. Plenty of people find the cold easier after heat.
  • Lower yourself in slowly. Keep your hands out of the water if that helps.
  • Thirty seconds is a good first goal.
  • Make your exhales long and slow. Count them if it helps.
  • If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, or you're pregnant, ask your doctor before plunging.

Plunge FAQ

Cold plunge questions.

Nervous about the cold? Call us first: (858) 305-2226.

  • How cold is the San Diego cold plunge?

45 to 49°F. Cold enough to take your breath for a second, which is why slow breathing helps so much.

  • Is a cold plunge the same as an ice bath?

Same idea, less mess. The plunge holds a set temperature on its own, so there's no ice to dump in and the water is ready when you walk in.

  • How long should I stay in?

Start with 30 seconds. Some people work up to two or three minutes over later visits. Listen to your body and get out whenever you want.

  • Can I plunge without using the sauna?

Of course. Plunge, shower, plunge again. Plenty of people like some heat in between, but nothing is required.

  • Will anyone else be in the plunge room?

No. San Diego has a single suite, booked by one person at a time plus any guests they add. Nobody walks in on you.

  • Does cold plunging help with recovery?

It may. A 2016 meta-analysis found cold water immersion eased muscle soreness after exercise slightly more than passive rest (Sports Medicine, 2016). It won't fix an injury, and if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, ask your doctor before you plunge.
